Autumn News Week 7 October 16th

Good morning everyone,

It is amazing how quickly Friday arrives and what a productive week it has been. Please look below to see photos of hard working children.

We are working on showing children how to access TEAMS should the need for closure arise. All children will be given an email address and a password which they will need to access teaching during a closure. Can I ask that when you receive this you practise logging into TEAMS with your child. More information can be found on this leaflet and also below.

How to access Home Learning Resources

Bike and scooter skills

Next week we have been offered the chance to host some bike and scooter skills training. You have received a letter and permission slip about these. They will take place on:

Wednesday- KS2 cycle skills

Thursday- KS1 scooter skills

Friday- KS2 scooter skills.

Harvest 2020

We will be donating Harvest contributions to the local care home. We would be happy to receive any tins, packets or boxed goods. Thank you.

School Meals

I am sorry to have to inform you that we have received notice from Chartwells, our caterer that due to staffing issues they are unable to provide a hot school meal until after half term. They will be delivering sandwiches each day. I am sorry for the inconvenience  but hopefully all will be back to normal after the half term break.

Well done for your excellent writing.

Year 1 children have worked at home to make Halloween creations.

Year 2 children shared their fantastic writing with me.

Don’t forget today’s Wear Red Day to fundraise for Show Racism the Red Card. Your child can wear any sensible clothing or accessories in red, we are asking for a £1 donation here:

Golden Time

We have been thinking about how we maintain the children’s interest in Golden Time activities as this is key to the success of our behaviour policy. At the moment this is a balancing act between safety guidelines and what we know the children enjoy.

Below is what we will be asking from this Friday.

  1. Please do not bring soft toys or malleable play (such as playdough or slime) from home until the situation eases.
  2. Plastic/ metal toys which can be wiped on return home can be brought. These will be stored in your child’s tray and will be for their personal use only.
  3. If a message is sent home that children can bring a bike or a scooter they must be parked in the garden area and not touched or shared in any way,

Virtual Parent Meetings.

You will receive your child’s 1/2 term report this week. If you would like to make an appointment to speak to your child’s teacher please let us know by contacting Miss Womack on Castle Admin by the morning of Monday 19th October. All meetings will take place via TEAMS during the week beginning 19th October and the week beginning November 2nd.

Transfer to Secondary School – September 2021 Closing Date: 31 October 2020

Alongside the reminder letter which the School Admissions Team will send, we are also asking for schools in their communications with Year 6 families, to remind them of the importance of completing their online application by the 31 October 2020 which can be found at]

There are a large number of pupils within this cohort again this year so those who apply late after this closing date are less likely to be offered a place at one of their preferred schools.

Further advice for families is available from the admissions team –]  or by calling 01302 736000

For school enquiries please contact Kay Morrow or by calling 01302 735993.

Well done to Lynx class with 100% attendance. You earn a non uniform day TODAY.

Last week’s attendance was 94.9%.

Please be aware if your child needs to self isolate this does not impact on attendance figures.

Please keep up to date by reading further for current messages.

Have a lovely day and a relaxing weekend,

Mrs Mason

Keeping up whilst self isolating or in the event of a bubble closure.

I think it is inevitable as time goes on that we will have children self isolating at home. If this happens then please let us know and we will email you with information on how to access learning on the class web pages and our Learning Zone where you will find work to keep your child on track as much as possible.

In the event that we have to close a “bubble” we will provide you with a weekly timetable which will support you with home learning. This will be posted onto the class pages by 9 am each Monday morning.

The timetable will include links to daily English and Maths lessons with your class teacher as well as a story/ class novel session. We will also send home our White Rose Maths booklet for your child to complete.

The final session of the day will be a chance to share work and receive feedback. You can also share your child’s work via Purple Mash or via email to Castle admin.

All lessons with your teacher will be accessed via Microsoft Teams. Below is a leaflet which will support you with this.

General Reminders

School Equipment

We have been trying to limit the amount of personal equipment being brought into school so that surfaces are clear and easily cleaned. We have also been limiting things coming home to you to decrease any potential infection risk. We will need to adapt as the term progresses and the weather and the curriculum change. For now we have agreed the following-

  • School uniform worn except for PE days (see below)
  • No bags or book bags needed.
  • Coats only needed if cold or wet.
  • Water bottles needed.
  • If your child is bringing a packed lunch please make sure they can open all bottles and packages themselves.
  • Reading books and diaries will be sent home on Thursdays. We do not need to see them more than once a week.
  • In order to decrease the risk of spreading infection all reading books returned to school will be quarantined until the following week.

PE kit worn on PE days

Tuesday- Y3/4
Wednesday – Y5/6
