Spring 2 News Week 3 March 7th 2022

Happy Monday!

To start the week, we would like to share Y6’s fantastic end of unit performance of the track ‘Happy’ from their weekly Charanga Music lessons. The children have worked really hard to create their own music video and showed tenacity and aspiration throughout! A massive thank you to Miss Womack who has supported the children to learn the dance routine and produce the video. Click on the link below:

Y6 Performance Happy

Mrs Bradley, the school Music Lead, was able to share the children’s performance with Mrs Godrey (Astrea Regional Director) and Mrs Fitt (Chair of Govenors) on their visit on Friday afternoon. Our visitors were really impressed when they observed a number of Music lessons and saw some fantastic rhythm work on the glockenspiels in Chile Class Y5/6, super singing in Mexico Class Y1 and found out some fascinating facts about a traditional Turkish instrument called a Zurna in Madagascar Class Y3.

Parents Evening

We will be offering both virtual and face to face parents evenings this half term. Our office team will be sending out the details to you later today. Appointments will start at 3:30pm to 5:50pm at 10 minute intervals. We really do hope that you will all be able to attend and we are looking forward to sharing your child’s progress with you.

Tuesday 22nd March– Face to Face meetings in school.

Thursday 24th March– Virtual Meetings via School Cloud.

Following parents evening we will be sending out a report to update you on your child’s attendance, attainment and identified targets.

Home Work

At Castle Academy, we value the importance of working in partnership with parents and would like to consult with you on the development of an agreed homework policy.
On Tuesday 8th March, we will be hosting a virtual consultation on homework at 5pm via TEAMs. This will consist of a brief presentation about the proposed changes to our homework policy and include an opportunity for parents to ask questions and provide vital feedback. It would be great to get parents of pupils across both Key Stage 1 and 2 to participate in the consultation process. If you would be interested in attending the virtual meeting, please express an interest via admin@astreacastle.org
We look forward to working with you on this.

Places in Reception available at Castle Academy.

We know that choosing a primary school is one of the most important decisions that a parent makes. At Castle Academy we work hard to make sure your child feels safe, welcomed and inspired to learn. If you have any friends of family who have children reception age and they would like to know more about us then please ask them to contact the school. We will be happy to show them around our lovely school and answer any questions they may have. We can also help with the process of applying for a place.

Help us to grow our family by passing this on.

Thank you

Miss Blagden

World Book Day Celebrations

Just incase you haven’t had chance to see how we celebrated World Book Day last Thursday.

We had a great day celebrating World Book Day in school yesterday. Everyone got into the spirit of the day and enjoyed a range of activities, including a costume parade in assembly and visiting the Book Swap Stall.

Mrs Cope also organised for an award-winning author/illustrator, Catherine Rayner, to perform a live digital event to Key Stage 1. Catherine spoke about what it’s like to be an author and illustrator, shared some of her stories, as well as drawing live. We also had the legendary children’s poet and author Michael Rosen for KS2 performing a live digital event in the afternoon. Michael performed some of his poems, spoke about the importance and joy of poetry and gave tips on how to start writing your own!

Behaviour Policy

Each classroom has a recognition board. All children will be aiming to have their photograph moved onto the board by the end of the school day. This recognises that all children have been following the school rules and have made the most of their learning time in school.

Castle class reward chart- please click on image for a clearer view

Each class will have a reward chart. At the beginning of each 1/2 term the children will discuss and choose the reward they are working towards. Children who display excellent behaviours for learning will earn a gold leaf to add to the chart, The children achieve the reward when the chart is full of golden leaves. We hope that this will further develop team working and responsibility.

Castle consequence steps- please click on image for a clearer view.

Each class will have a copy of our consequence steps. These clearly set out our strategies for managing negative behaviour. If your child reaches step 6 on more than 3 occasions we will be in touch to request a meeting with you so that we can work together to support your child to improve their behaviour.
