SEND

At Castle Academy we are committed to ensuring that every child gets the best support we can offer in order to help them to enjoy their learning, feel confident and happy amongst their friends and make the best progress possible.

We recognise that pupils learn at different rates and that there are many factors that influence achievement and attainment.

Many pupils, at some time in their school career, may experience difficulties which pose barriers to learning; these may be long or short term. Not all pupils with disabilities have special educational needs and not all pupils with SEN meet the definition of disability; the policy covers all of these pupils.

Inclusion at Castle Academy aims to reduce educational failure and maximise potential for all children by supporting children’s holistic development and helping to remove barriers to achievement.  We will provide effective learning opportunities for all children based on their individual needs. We call this our ‘Success for All’ approach which is underpinned by the following principles:

All children can learn.

All children deserve an ambitious curriculum.

All children should experience success.

Our Special Educational Needs and Disability Co-ordinator (SENDCO) is Mrs L Taylor.

In accordance with the SEN Code of Practice 2014, the governing bodies of maintained schools and maintained nursery schools and the proprietors of academy schools must publish information on their websites about the implementation of the governing body’s or the proprietor’s policy for pupils with SEN.

The Local Offer

The local offer provides information for children and young people with special educational needs (SEND) and their parents or carers in a single place. It shows families what they can expect from a range of local agencies, including education, health and social care. Knowing what is out there gives families more choice and therefore more control over what support is right for their children.

Further information about the local offer can be found on the Doncaster Families Information Service website by opening the following link:
